“His job was to review all the accounting laws and make sure the firm was complying with them, as the laws are constantly changing. Pretty sure he made mid-six figures and didn’t have to interact much except for normal office chit-chat. These days you could probably work from home.”

5. Crane Operator

Some people find themselves in a very envious position: Earning tons of money while sitting on their butts.

I aspire to be a crane operator one day. “A quarter million a year to sit by yourself all day, with occasional requests to relocate heavy objects at or near the Earth’s surface,” reports one crane operator. “But mostly, you sit and contemplate the view from up there.”

6. Radiologist

According to many radiologists, they are shocked at the amount of money they make despite interacting with a minimal amount of people.

If administering X-rays and CT scans in relative peace and quiet is the way to make a lot of money these days, then sign me up! Who would say no to being a radiologist?

7. Computer Engineer

When your job title consists of the words “Computer” and “Engineer,” two things are crystal clear: You make a lot of money and don’t have to deal with people.

Computer engineers make a living by hunkering down at their desks, quietly improving the lives of others. In a way, they’re geniuses, and I’m glad they are adequately compensated.

8. Financial Analyst

Based on multiple accounts by financial analysts, they may have the best job in the world.

In 2023, financial analysts work from home, only answer to one person (their direct boss), and mostly converse over emails instead of over the phone. These factors translate to a relatively easy occupation with a high-paying salary!

9. Full-Time Dog Walker

Believe it or not, there is money to be made in the dog-walking game! “A friend of mine is a full-time dog walker,” explains one woman.

“He’s been doing it for so long that he has keys to the apartments of people too busy to walk their dogs. Aside from the occasional hello, he mostly talks to dogs and makes close to 80k.”

10. Freelance Writer

One of the best-kept secrets in the job market is that of a freelance writer. Not only do you set your own schedule, but you don’t have to talk to anyone!

“I used to have to do the occasional Skype call to secure a job or discuss details,” confesses one freelancer. “But for the last five years, I have worked (full-time pay, part-time hours) with a client who only communicates by email. It is glorious.”

11. Commercial Truck Driver

Imagine a job that consists of just you, a 12-ton long-haul truck, and an open road.

Commercial truck drivers command top-tier salaries, but it comes at a cost: Long, uncomfortable hours sitting down as you travel alone. At least the job doesn’t require you to have any other human interaction, though.

While day trading is highly volatile, the benefits arguably outweigh the drawbacks.
